Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada’s
Emergency Assistance Program

Our Emergency Assistance Program is tasked with serving those who wonder how they will be able to meet their most basic needs. We embrace each family and individual with a plan to achieve an increased level of self-sufficiency, giving back some of the choices they have lost along the way.

As we realize that while we provide a very wide array of services to those in need, we also rely on support and assistance from many other local not-for-profit agencies in our community. As a Catholic Charities agency, our goal is not to duplicate local services, but rather to target our resources on those “gaps” in services. With this said, our Emergency Services staff consult with individuals and families, determine their overall needs and situations, connect people to other services in the community, and then strive to provide those basic needs that do not exist elsewhere.

During the fiscal year 2009/2010, we provided the following types of Emergency Services:

  • Housing assistance (rent, short term housing, utilities, etc.) for 933 families.
  • Transportation help (primarily bus passes) for 4,320 individuals.
  • Job acquisition support (work permits, ID cards, etc.) for 1,590 individuals.
